We are Unitarian Jihad, and our motto is: "Sincerity is not enough." We have heard from enough sincere people to last a lifetime already. Just because you believe it's true doesn't make it true. Just because your motives are pure doesn't mean you are not doing harm. Get a dog, or comfort someone in a nursing home, or just feed the birds in the park. Play basketball. Lighten up. The world is not out to get you, except in the sense that the world is out to get everyone. (Jon Carroll - Unitarian Jihad [4-5-05])
I'm quiet and will tend to listen or watch conversations only speaking when I think I have something useful to say, not one to talk for the sake of talking. But direct questions always get a considered answer.
I am a spiritual person. Everyone searches for meaning, and some people find it. I remain on the hunt. The christian tradition speaks to me and is where I'm starting my journey but growing up Unitarian Universalist taught me that no religion has the lock on ultimate truth. (The approach is from liberal religious tradition, not a literalist or fundamentalist view.)
I'm a mildly intellectual person. Neither a PhD nor philosopher, but I try to be thoughtful and deliberate. Reading (mostly fiction) is the best way to spend time.
Movies that are about redemption of the heart and finding one's self are my favorites. Under the Tuscan Sun, Big Eden, and The Shipping News all come to mind. Sci-Fi (Space Opera, thank you) and Fantasy also turn me on...Doctor Who, Babylon 5, Lord of the Rings, and Serenity for example.
